Magnetic Hub Cap Conversion Kit

- Remove the 5 screws from each hub cap.
- Turn over the hub cap and locate the centre mould mark on the rear.
- Peel the self-adhesive backing off a magnet and place directly in the centre of the rear of the cap. Be careful not to touch the adhesive and ensure the magnet is firmly and accurately pushed into place.
- Peel and place 5 chromed silver stickers inside the screw housings of the wheel. Use the soft-tipped applicator tool to ensure each sticker is fully adhered.
- That’s it! Your hub cap is now ready to magnetically re-attach to the wheel. Now repeat for all remaining hub caps.
To remove a cap – Place the felt-backed side of the protective tab against the hub cap, take the magnetic rod and slowly approach the hub cap until it attracts. You should now be able to pull the hub cap away from the wheel.
This magnetic conversion kit removes the need for the unsightly AM screws on the hub caps – converting them instead to a secure magnetic fixing and resulting in a more authentic look.
On KITT you shouldn’t see any visible screws or bolts holding the hub caps in place. The wheel bolts on KITT are barely visible at all in real life, hidden well behind the hub caps and adding to the futuristic look of the K2000. This makes it preferable and more realistic looking to remove the fixings altogether on this partwork model.
Upgrading your hub caps using this mod is quick and easy and won’t affect the structural integrity of the wheel at all. Plus, with the magnets being so powerful, you can rest assured that the hub caps won’t fall off your model once in place.
Converting the hub caps using this magnetic kit also allows quick and easy removal for future maintenance or access behind the wheels, or to quickly show off your drilled brake discs to your mates of course! (available here).
Build tip:
Once you have the magnetic conversion kit installed, a good tip is to remove your hub caps during stages of the build where your caps are at risk of being scratched – such as when you need to lean the model on its side for instance.
As an additional detail, this kit also includes chromed silver stickers to place behind each hub cap in place of the screws, giving the impression of silver bolt heads just visible when you look through the hub caps’ holes – exactly how it would appear on the real KITT.
