Information and FAQs for my International customers who may be affected by Royal Mail’s current delays.
Latest update
I’m pleased to report that Royal Mail’s services are beginning to return to normal, however you should still expect some delays for existing parcels in the network, and short delays for new items posted.
I’m aware of the severe delays the disruption within Royal Mail over the past few weeks is causing and the effects it is also having on tracking information. I kindly ask that you continue to be patient and allow Royal Mail to resolve this situation as they work through the backlog. More information regarding this matter, including FAQ’S and the latest updates are available below.
Thank you for your patience!
Previous updates
Update 31st January, 2023
Both Royal Mail’s ‘International Tracked & Signed‘ and ‘Tracked‘ services have now fully resumed.
Unfortunately, cheaper services such as ‘International Standard‘ remain unavailable until Royal Mail lift their temporary suspension of these services.
Please expect items posted from this date to take slightly longer than usual. Deliveries overseas via Royal Mail continue to be slower than normal, with some parcels still awaiting updates to their tracking information from mid-January.
If you’re looking to place a new order and are concerned about possible delays, my recommendation is to choose ‘DPD Express‘ at checkout if available to you.
Due to the disruption caused by Royal Mail over the past couple of months, I will only be offering fully tracked services until I have full confidence that a normal, reliable service has resumed. I apologise if this increases your shipping costs for new orders, but this is in the best interest of your order arriving safely and in good time.
Update 26rd January, 2023
Royal Mail’s ‘International Tracked & Signed‘ service has now resumed, allowing me to export again using this service.
Unfortunately, cheaper services such as ‘International Standard‘ and ‘Tracked‘ remain unavailable until Royal Mail lift their temporary suspension of these services.
Update 23rd January, 2023
After weeks of uncertainty, I am beginning to see the majority of International mail that was sent in early January start to move and receive updates to their tracking. These are encouraging signs that Royal Mail are closer to resuming normal service and that your parcels will arrive soon.
Statement 12th January, 2023
Unfortunately, since before Christmas, Royal Mail exports have been severely impacted by disruption caused by postal strikes, backlogs at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre, and a technical issue affecting their Track and Trace service.
In mid-January, Royal Mail also suffered a major ‘Cyber Incident’ which has caused further delays.
This is a situation that has affected all UK businesses who rely on Royal Mail for exports and isn’t unique to Mike Lane Mods or your order.
Exports to Germany and the US appear to have been hit the hardest, but this is a global issue currently affecting all countries.
Domestic orders within the UK are unaffected.
Please understand that this unprecedented situation is completely out of my control. The poor service and performance by Royal Mail in recent weeks and months is something I am acutely aware of and has affected me personally. If you have been affected, I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may have caused you. I am working hard to address this to help avoid a repeat of this disruption in future.
Whilst I’m doing my best to help reassure customers, at the moment, unfortunately all I can do is ask that you wait patiently for Royal Mail to resume normal service.
To help keep you informed and up-to-date regarding these delays, I’ve produced this article which I will be updating frequently with news as it becomes available.
For now, I hope this helps reassure you that I am aware of the problem, and that these delays are widespread and not unique to your order.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unusual time.
FAQs
Where is my parcel?
If you haven’t received your parcel yet or haven’t seen any updates to your parcels tracking, please be assured that your parcel is unlikely to be lost, it is most likely still at the Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre awaiting its next scan and export.
The delays and disruption within Royal Mail over the past few weeks and months have resulted in a major backlog which is taking Royal Mail time to clear.
The recent ‘Cyber Incident’ that Royal Mail faced in January has added to these delays, as they have been physically unable to release parcels from the UK for exporting until control of their systems has been fully regained.
Alternatively, there’s a good chance your parcel is actually en route to you but may not be reflected in the tracking due to a technical issue with Royal Mail’s Track and Trace service. You may find you receive your parcel without any notice or updates to the tracking. However, you will normally begin to see updates to your tracking once your parcel receives its next scan.
It looks like my parcel hasn’t moved?
You may find that tracking information for your parcel is currently limited due to the technical issues Royal Mail are facing with their Track and Trace service.
Due to these issues, the tracking may be lacking information and may give the impression that your parcel hasn’t moved.
Please rest assured that this is a common problem and whilst it may appear that your parcel still at the Post Office or drop-off point, please understand that this is only because of the technical issues with Royal Mail’s Track and Trace service, resulting in missing tracking information.
Your parcels tracking information should update once it receives its next scan. Due to the backlog and disruption within Royal Mail you should expect a delay before you see any updates to your tracking.
Please be assured that despite these delays and tracking issues, I am seeing parcels work their way through the network and reach their destinations safely – they are just taking a lot longer than usual.
What should I do?
For now, please stay calm and don’t be concerned. Please continue to wait patiently for Royal Mail to clear the backlog. You should expect some delays with your parcels at this unusual time.
I understand the disappointment and frustration that these delays are causing and completely share these feelings with you. It is very important to me that your orders arrive safely and in good time.
There are encouraging signs that Royal Mail are beginning to clear the backlog at Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre, but information is unfortunately very limited. Royal Mail are reporting steady progress and I am beginning to see this reflected with orders I sent before Christmas finally beginning to reach their destination overseas.
My order hasn’t been shipped yet, should I be concerned about this situation with Royal Mail?
If you’ve placed an order with me and it hasn’t yet dispatched, please do not worry. I won’t be sending your order via Royal Mail unless I am completely confident service has returned to normal. In the meantime, if your order is ready to leave I will be reaching out to offer you an alternative shipping method.
I’d like to place a new order, what should I do?
If you’re an International customer looking to place a new order, please choose DPD at checkout until further notice to avoid potential delays with your delivery. DPD is a courier service currently unaffected by this situation.
Alternatively, you can choose Royal Mail, but please understand that there may be significant delays before your parcel can be sent. Royal Mail are currently restricting all exports until normal service resumes.
Where can I find more information?
