A playful twist – introducing my mods for the Playmobil DeLorean Time Machine

Playmobil DeLorean with accessories

Serious modellers might not consider the DeLorean model by Playmobil worthy of a place in their collection. But while this might be a toy, it gets an enthusiastic recommendation from me – it’s fun, bold and puts a smile your face. And, as you’d expect, I couldn’t resist putting my own spin on it!

You’ve got to love Playmobil. They make brilliantly quirky themed toys that children adore – and which have become favourites among grown-up collectors too, particularly with their more recent 80’s inspired playsets including Ghostbusters and Back to the Future. Their DeLorean Time Machine is no exception. Complete with gull-wing doors, illuminations and accompanying model characters, it’s a great little tribute to the movie.

Playmobil’s take on the DeLorean isn’t inspired by total accuracy and precision scaling – it’s all about fun, familiarity and exaggerated features. So, modding it needs to be about more than perfectly recreating elements of the original car in miniature. My mods are created in the same whimsical Playmobil spirit – providing a few choice details to make a cool toy even cooler.

My first mod for the Playmobil DeLorean is a set of flux band wires. This adds a welcome splash of colour along the exterior of the car. It’s a chunky, bright accessory that brings the iconic time machine to life that little bit more, while fitting with the style of this distinctive version.

And next, there’s my tyre transfers mod. Anyone who knows my work will understand my appreciation of detailing such as tyre branding. Subtle elements like this can make all the difference. I think my authentic tyre transfers bring a nice touch of realism and depth to this playful model.

As an 80s kid who loved Back to the Future (and still does), models like this are a real joy. And it’s satisfying to add my own twist to help bring even more charm and character to an enjoyable toy. If the Playmobil DeLorean is part of your collection too, I hope you enjoy these mods – there are more in the pipeline too, so watch this space!
