- Ensure that all sections requiring carpet (parts 49A, 49B, 52A and 52C) are disassembled and completely removed from the model before you start.
- For best results, install the carpet sections in the order specified on the installation diagram provided, also indicated in the step-by-step photos here on this page.
- Ensure that part 52C is installed last, after fitting the carpets to the main floor section (52A).
- Each piece is self-adhesive – simply peel off the backing and begin sticking into place.
- Lay each piece slowly to check for alignment – using your fingers to apply and push out any potentially trapped air bubbles from beneath the carpet as you go.
- The provided spudger tool is handy for pressing the carpets into difficult to reach areas and corners, but be mindful not to drag the tool along the main carpet surfaces as you risk damaging or tearing it. Only use your fingers for pressing the carpets into their final position.
- The adhesive will strengthen within just a few hours of contact, so if you need to peel and reposition the carpets, ensure you act quickly during installation.

Detailing tip:
The armrest from Issue 51 – I recommend painting the armrest (part 51D) black to accurately match how it looked in KITT. The cream armrest was an unfortunate inaccuracy carried over from a replica KITT used for the production of this model. To repaint this, I would recommend a coat of Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, followed by two coats of Tamiya TS-6 Matt Black and an optional final coat of clear matt lacquer to protect the paint.
