Bringing your Ecto-1 build back to life

It’s time to resurrect the Eaglemoss Ecto-1 build with these high-quality hand-crafted kits, designed to complete the missing Issues 36 and 37.

With the chilling news that Eaglemoss is no more, the Ecto-1 build is, unfortunately for now, dead and buried.

The Ecto-1 has sadly entered the partwork modelling spirit world, an infuriating two issues from completion – joining several other beloved models in a graveyard of parts and unfinished builds.

And whilst there’s hopeful news that these builds may be revived in time through another publisher, for now, I’ve made it my mission to help bring them back from the dead.

For the Ecto-1 in this case, I introduce to you my ‘Resurrect the Ecto-1’ kits – tailor-made parts to complete your build to a higher level of detail and accuracy than would have been possible with the standard kits.

The demise of Eaglemoss

The model building world has been rocked by the news that Eaglemoss has gone out of business. In mid-July, with no notice and without as much as a statement to their customers, the model making giants stopped taking orders, shut down their websites and seemingly stopped all communication with the public.

Based in the UK, Eaglemoss Collections has been a leader in the collectibles market since the 1970s. Along with its Hero Collector sub-brand, Eaglemoss is responsible for the release of some of the world’s best-loved partworks collections throughout many countries. These include 1:8 scale models of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine and the James Bond Aston Martin DB5.

The sudden closure of Eaglemoss has left subscribers in limbo. For anyone partway through a build, this means an uncertain outcome for their project.

Recent news, however, suggests that assets, licensing and distribution rights are being actively transferred away from Eaglemoss to another company. So, whilst it could take some time, it seems increasingly likely that the currently abandoned Eaglemoss and Hero Collector partwork builds will continue at some stage in the future. You can read more about this here.

This is encouraging news for everyone, and if you’re clinging on to this hope and aren’t looking to upgrade, I would say for now, keep the faith. But if you are looking to complete your Ecto-1 sooner – and in style – look no further!

Resurrecting the Ecto-1 build

Since 2018, I’ve been creating and producing upgrades for a number of partwork and large-scale models, including those from Eaglemoss and Hero Collector. So it’s no surprise that since this shocking news about Eaglemoss, I’ve had an influx of requests to ask if there’s anything I can do to help complete subscribers’ builds.

In the case of the Ecto-1 build, the good news is I’ve been hard at work developing and producing fun-to-build, screen-accurate kits to help fill those final gaps for modellers nearing completion.

In the true spirit of partwork modelling, my kits have been designed to be fun and easy to assemble, with no glue or painting required – giving you the personal satisfaction of constructing and completing your Ecto-1 in the most enjoyable and rewarding way possible.

I’m busy creating these kits now to replace the missing pieces that should have come with Issues 36 and 37 (stage 135 onwards) – the ones which many people were on course to receive next.

The first kit is available to pre-order now, and the remaining kits will follow shortly. The kits will include all the parts needed for the eight build stages within these two concluding issues of the build – but of course more accurate and produced to the highest standard. Keep checking back here or join my mailing list to be notified as soon as the latest kits become available. You can register here, or on the kit product pages.

FAQs

When will the resurrection kits be ready?

Kit 1 is ready to order now, and the remaining kits will follow in the coming weeks.

The news about Eaglemoss came out of the blue for me, as it did for the rest of the modelling world, so I’ve had a limited amount of time to develop all the parts required.

This involves a huge amount of work in research, design, reverse engineering, planning and production but I’m working hard to get all the remaining parts ready for your Ecto-1 build as soon as possible – without rushing out parts. Your Ectomobile deserves better than to be rushed at the final stages – my aim will always be to make any replacement parts better than what you would have received with the build.

I’ll be releasing a kit at a time, in much the same way as your subscription would have continued. So hopefully you won’t notice too much of an impact to your build!

Will these kits complete my Ecto-1 build?

Yes, depending on where you got to in your build. If you got to Issue 35 in your build (the final issue before Eaglemoss collapsed), then these four kits will complete your Ecto.

Designed to pick up from Stage 134, these four kits are designed to completely finish the roof rack assembly, and to a higher level of detail and accuracy.

If you didn’t get as far as Issue 35, then you will unfortunately need to await news from PCT/IXO regarding their acquisition of Eaglemoss’ assets. There is hope that the Ecto-1 will continue, read more here.

If it does, hopefully you’ll be able to source the parts you need to continue your build, and these ‘Resurrect the Ecto’ kits will still serve as a significant upgrade over the standard roof rack and ladder parts provided with the model.

What if the Ecto-1 build resumes?

If the Ecto build resumes, these kits will still serve as a significant upgrade over the standard parts.

Of course, if the build continues via another company in future this would be great news for modellers worldwide, and while this would mean you wouldn’t strictly need my completion kits, there’s a huge advantage to having my kits installed anyway. The parts we would have received, and a lot of the parts we did receive towards the end, suffer with a wide range of inaccuracies and deficiencies – and my mods will offer a significant upgrade to these standard parts.

So if you want to finish your Ecto-1 to a higher standard, and potentially sooner, you might well want these completion kits anyway.

Can you manufacture and supply parts for other, earlier issues of the build?

Potentially, yes.

Once these four completion kits are ready, I will turn my attention to earlier issues. Engineering the parts for Issues 36 and 37 is already a seriously demanding undertaking. With the large number of subscribers stuck at this stage, this will hopefully help complete the build for as many people as possible at this critical final point.

This of course depends on whether or not these builds continue via another company in future, which is a very real possibility. In which case I’ll continue to focus my efforts on improving areas of the model which need attention as I have always done.
