Resurrect the Ecto-1 – Kit 3

The biggest kit in the series, Kit 3 features an impressive acrylic roof box with stunningly detailed wood grain texture, hidden storage compartment, motorised oscillating sniffer, motorised half-dome directional dish, roof vents and heat sink – along with all the necessary screws and fixings.

This kit, together with my other Resurrect the Ecto-1 kits, is a must for the serious modeller wishing for the perfect scale model Ecto-1 replica.

Fully motorised with stock power

This kit sees another major upgrade over the stock parts, with a fully motorised, oscillating sniffer and spinning half-dome directional radar dish – all powered directly from the model’s stock power supply via the roof cables.

Incredibly accurate to the original Ecto-1, these moving components introduce a whole new level of authenticity and excitement to the model. Each piece has been engineered to be as quiet as possible, using bearings, pulley wheels and belts – all carefully matched to the motion and speed of the original roof box gadgetry exactly. Every moving part also feature stainless steel metal rods and metal shafts for longevity, reliability and strength.

Unlike the stock parts, which are static, fixed and entirely wrong in their design and appearance, every piece of this kit has been painstakingly matched to the original Ecto-1.

The motorised components feature the following:

• Belt driven with bearings for silky smooth operation
• Stainless steel metal rods and metal shafts
• Mechanically driven, oscillating sniffer, engineered exactly like the real Ecto-1
• Fully rotating radar dish
• All electronics, cables and mechanisms are hidden away in an easy-to-access hidden storage compartment
• Runs off existing batteries and connects to the easily accessible ‘N’ cable on the roof via a supplied splitter cable – No additional power supply required!
• Very low power consumption

An incredibly detailed roof box

The roof box itself is constructed from the highest quality acrylic with a highly detailed wood grain texture engraved throughout. We’re very proud of the outcome and finish of this piece, developed and manufactured here at the Mike Lane workshop.

All of my kits are designed to be easy and enjoyable to build, but the roof box in particular is a really fun mini-project to construct – designed with model makers in mind. Comprising a number of separate pieces which all fit together easily, with hidden screws and no need for painting.
