YouTuber David at thelifeofBrien has kindly produced reviews showcasing kits 1 and 2, and said:
“It already looks so much better! I’ve loved Mikes products in the past, and this is something I wanted to add to my model.”
The demise of Eaglemoss
The model building world was rocked by Eaglemoss going out of business in 2022. Without even a statement to their customers, the model making giants stopped taking orders, shut down their websites and seemingly stopped all communication with the public.
Based in the UK, Eaglemoss Collections were leaders in the collectibles arena since the 1970s. Along with their Hero Collector sub-brand, Eaglemoss were responsible for the release of some of the world’s best-loved partworks collections throughout many countries. These include 1:8 scale models of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1, the Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine and the James Bond Aston Martin DB5.
The sudden collapse of Eaglemoss left subscribers in limbo. For anyone partway through a build, this meant an uncertain outcome for their project. Fortunately, IXO Models (part of PCT) took over Eaglemoss’s assets, licensing and distribution rights. And in January 2023, it was announced that publishers Fanhome and DeAgostini would begin taking pre-orders in the UK, US and Germany on parts for the models left abandoned by Eaglemoss and Hero Collector.
This has been great news for the future of those beloved models, and a particular relief for all those model enthusiasts tantalisingly close to completing the Ecto-1. For some, it means being able to see the project through with the final parts that were out of reach for so long. The alternative, of course, is to bring an even more satisfying end to the story with the higher quality, screen-accurate upgrades in my Resurrect the Ecto-1 kits.
Resurrecting the Ecto-1 build
Since 2018, I’ve been creating and producing upgrades for a number of partwork and large-scale models, including those from Eaglemoss and Hero Collector. So it’s no surprise that since this shocking news about Eaglemoss, I’ve had an influx of requests to ask if there’s anything I can do to help complete subscribers’ builds.
In the case of the Ecto-1 build, I’ve been hard at work developing and producing fun-to-build, screen-accurate kits to help fill those final gaps for modellers nearing completion.
In the true spirit of partwork modelling, my kits have been designed to be fun and easy to assemble – giving you the personal satisfaction of constructing and completing your Ecto-1 in the most enjoyable and rewarding way possible.
These kits have taken almost a year to development, research and produce and are available now to replace the missing pieces that should have come with Issues 36 and 37 (stage 135 onwards) – the ones which many people were on course to receive next.
The kits include all the parts, screws and instructions required for the eight build stages within the two concluding issues of the build – but of course far more accurate and produced to the highest standard.
FAQs
When will the resurrection kits be ready?
Now.
These kits were prompted by the sudden disappearance of Eaglemoss so developing all the parts required has been a technical and time-consuming challenge.
The process involved a huge amount of work in research, design, reverse engineering, planning and production – without the luxury of a huge team to undertake it. But I’m pleased to say that all the remaining parts ready for your Ecto-1 build are now complete – without compromising on quality. Your Ectomobile deserves better than to be rushed at the final stages – so even though the original Eaglemoss parts are now available via Fanhome, you can be sure that using my kits will deliver a far superior finish.
Will these kits complete my Ecto-1 build?
If you are at Issue 35 in your build (the final issue before Eaglemoss collapsed), then these four kits will complete your Ecto-1 with no need for any further standard parts.
These four kits are designed to completely finish the roof rack assembly and ladder to an elevated level of detail and accuracy compared with standard parts.
If you need parts from before these stages to continue your build, you should now be able to pre-order these from Fanhome. Read more
Do you supply parts for earlier issues of the build?
Standard parts for earlier stages of the build are now available to pre-order via Fanhome. Read more
Now that the Resurrect the Ecto-1 kits are complete, I plan to work backwards to give my customers the ability to pick up the build from earlier stages than 36 – such as an improved roof rack.
I have already developed a range of upgrades for various aspects of the Ecto-1 at earlier stages of the build.
You can see all of my Ecto-1 mods, together with my Resurrect the Ecto-1 kits, together here.
