Something else you’d like, or a new mod idea?
If there’s something else that you’d like for this model, feel free to get in touch and I’d be happy to discuss and help make it happen!
It’s hard to imagine a more quintessential example of a supercar than the Ferrari F40. Its combination of raw power and dazzling style make this the stuff of fantasy for car lovers. From the sleek, aerodynamic design to the bright red finish – Ferrari’s trademark rosso corsa, or ‘racing red’ – this is a car that can’t fail to fire up the imagination.
And when the F40 made its first appearance in the late 1980s, its impact was even more remarkable. It was at the time the fastest, most powerful and most expensive car on Earth. With a twin-turbo charged V8 engine, the F40 Competizione boasts a dizzying top speed of 367km/h and one F40s would later command a million-pound price tag.
The F40 was conceived to celebrate 40 years of Ferrari and is famously credited as being the last ever model to be signed off by the brand’s founder Enzo Ferrari himself. While the original F40 was released as a high-performance road car, the Competizione model was an even more powerful incarnation built for endurance racing. And it stands today as a truly definitive and memorable sports car.
The F40 by Panini is an impressively detailed 1:8 scale model of the F40 Competizione, based on the 1989 model displayed at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, Italy. This partwork model arrives in 100 weekly instalments, allowing you to get up close and personal with the car as you assemble it piece by piece.
This stylish big-scale replica is constructed from die-cast metal, giving it a quality feel and doing justice to the car’s sporty bright red paint job. Other welcome features include sound and light effects, and an opening rear bonnet, which reveals detailed engine components.
Each instalment is accompanied by a 40-page magazine which showcases irresistible photos and tells the story not only of the F40, but of all Ferrari’s supercars. It’s another nice addition that makes this F40 build-up a great project and an unmissable item for Ferrari-loving modellers. More information about this partwork model and how you can subscribe to the build can be found here.
As a model-making enthusiast myself, I’m building Panini’s F40 in real time as each issue is released. And what I’ve seen so far is a superb level of detail and high build quality as the model progresses. But anyone who knows me will know that I can’t resist making my own mark on this model by releasing my own upgrades, accessories and fixes.
So, look out for my F40 mods over the coming weeks. I will, as ever, have a keen eye on elements that I think would benefit from a rethink or a lift. And if, while building your own F40, you have ideas for mods you’d love to see, please let me know. If there’s enough interest, your suggestion might just be my next development project.
Ferrari is synonymous with luxury. And while most of us won’t get the chance to own a supercar ourselves, why not make our miniature version of the iconic F40 as refined and realistic as it can be? That’s the motivation behind the mods I’m developing for this eye-catching replica – taking something beautiful and adding an extra touch of magic.
